But subscriptions are really just a way to take more money from you than you'd be willing to pay in one lump sum, and it leaves you with nothing if you ever cancel, so you're locked-in. I understand that the app receives updates, and if they were updates worth paying for I'd happily do so.

But I'm not subscribing to what's essentially a piece of software that just sits on my computer.

I refuse to subscribe to anything apart from services of which I use the resources continually (like Dropbox, as I use their servers, or Spotify, as I continually download music). If you have any more questions about the features or security of 1Password accounts, let me know :) That makes your vaults useless to anyone but you whenever they're in transit or on our servers. Those two keys required to turn your data from "meaningless blobs" to your 1Password data never leave your device.

Your vaults are AES-256 bit encrypted by your Master Password with PBKDF2 key derivation to prevent brute forcing, and now there's the benefit of the Secret Key also encrypting your data. It's your decision whether to subscribe or not!Īs far as security, I'll have to disagree.

Depending on your setup, a 1Password account may indeed cost more-that's because we have new ongoing expenses from it (servers, lots of additional development, more support/socials folks to accommodate for the new users we're now accessible to), and at the same time the value of it increases for you (in terms of ease of use, featureset, and sync reliability/security). We'll always be marked by an official flair, and will always love both 1Password and you. You'll see some friendly people from the 1Password team ready to help you - keep an eye out for /u/1PasswordCS-Blake, /u/agben, u/Zatara214, and more of us!
